UK plans for the Global Week of Action

The UK plans for the Global Week of Action include a major programme of local activities throughout the week, based around the international call to action:

Our message is:
NO to the rich and powerful imposing unjust trade agreements, indiscriminate liberalisation and privatisation on the poor.
YES to everyone's right to food, a livelihood, water, health and education.

Themed days of the week
One action idea is to theme each day of the Global Week of Action according to the five positive calls that follow 'YES to everyone's right to…') i.e.

Monday 11 April = food
Tuesday 12 April = livelihoods
Wednesday 13 April = water
Thursday 14 April = health
Friday 15 April = education

Focusing on a different demand each day gives us the chance to show the depth of the problem, how unfair trade increases poverty and hurts farmers, traders, communities and the environment. The Global Week of Action is our opportunity to tell the stories of those who are suffering from trade injustice, the damaging effects of trade on the environment and to show the urgent need for change. It is a chance to show that trade is about more than economics and business; it is about the lives and livelihoods of poor people across the world every day and the planet we share.

Get Creative… Build Momentum…
Giving the days of the week a theme can generate a creative programme of events locally, building momentum nationally during the week. It is a great outreach opportunity to raise awareness and engage more people in the campaign for Trade Justice.
