ComedyActionAid presents: Gagging for Trade Justice
12-1am Central Hall Westminster (Room 2) The best way to stay awake – start with a FREE! midnight comedy event spent with well know comedians including Robert Newman, Andrew Maxwell, Marcus Brigstocke and Ivor Dembina (compere). Robert Newman has been politically active with Reclaim the Streets, the Liverpool dockers, Indymedia and People's Global Action. His latest and third novel is The Fountain At The Center Of The World which covers anti-free trade activism. His latest show ‘ApoCalypso Now: From P45 to AK47: How To Grow The Economy With War’ is currently touring. His latest CD and DVD is the show before that, ‘From Taliban to Caliban’. Robert began his comedy career as a member of radio and tv series The Mary Whitehouse Experience with David Baddiel, Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis. With Baddiel, he formed a comedy double act that soon had ‘pop-star-like status’ (BBC-speak) in the 90s before he went on to carve his own very special territory as author, activist and comedian. ActionAid is one of the UK's largest international development charities. Eradicating poverty is not a distant dream, but one we can realistically achieve. ActionAid believes that poverty's continuing existence is a result of choices made over time about how to organise societies and that by working together we can choose differently - individually and collectively - if we wish. ActionAid is a founding member of the Trade Justice Movement. Reports from the events »
