Press Statement on G20 Communique

The G20 has used this meeting to call urgently for a conclusion to the Doha World Trade Organisation talks.  This would be wrong,”  said Anne Callaghan, Coordinator of the Trade Justice Movement. “ A quick conclusion to the round would place the livelihoods of developing countries small scale and subsistence farmers and workers  at risk and subject their financial markets to the very liberalisation measures that led to the reckless banking and speculative activities that have devastated the US and European economies.”

The Trade Justice Movement is a member of the Put People First platform which saw over 35,000 people take to the streets on Saturday 28 March to call on the G20 leaders to take fundamental action for jobs, justice and climate.

The Trade Justice Movement is a coalition of organisations including trade unions, aid agencies, environment and human rights campaigns, fairtrade organisations, faith and consumer groups. The movement is supported by more than 80 member organisations that have over 9 million members.

Together, we are campaigning for trade justice - not free trade - with the rules weighted to benefit poor people and the environment.
