Bono's message to Brighton campaigners:

Greetings from Dublin - Sorry I couldn't make it today.

I know this stuff isn't easy to explain (you don't see UNCTAD reports on the NY Times best seller lists) but there's a melody line coming through that people are starting to pay attention to.

  • That the way we have set up trade to work favours the richest countries in the world and deny's the poorest.
  • That free trade doesn't equal fair trade.
  • That building barricades on our end through subsidies and barriers while stripping away other countries rights to do the same exposes a hypocrisy that has to end. Trade policy in the poorest countries should be decided by those countries, not dictated by the IMF and World Bank.

Our job is to turn the volume up and keep the heat on – thanks for turning out today.

Peace, Bono
